SKU: HARD-ACFFC8 Category:

Series 2 device incorporating wide field of view camera modules. Well suited for all the scenarios that require coverage of larger areas.

Key Features:

  • 150 DFOV for stereo pair, 12 MP RGB camera module with 120 DFOV
  • 4 TOPS of processing power (1.4 TOPS for AI)
  • Run any AI model, even custom architectured/built ones
  • Rugged IP66 rated enclosure (please see the technical specifications for details)
  • USB2 / USB3 for power delivery and communication

OAK-D W is the ultimate camera for robotic vision that perceives the world like a human by combining a wide stereo depth camera and wide high-resolution color camera with an on-device Neural Network inferencing and Computer Vision capabilities. It uses USB-C for both power and USB3 connectivity.

Wide FOV allows you to capture more area in one shot, which can be especially useful for:

  • Multi-camera setup, to reduce the number of cameras needed to cover the whole area
  • AMRs, to cover larger area and to get more features for localization and 3D mapping – see VIO/SLAM documentation for more information
  • Object tracking/counting, for example vehicle or people counting over a larger area

For a smooth getting started experience with the USB camera, we recommend following USB deployment guide.

RVC2 architecture on-board features:

  • 4 TOPS of processing power (1.4 TOPS for AI – RVC2 NN Performance)
  • Run any AI model, even custom architected/built ones (models need to be converted)
  • Encoding: H.264, H.265, MJPEG – 4K/30FPS, 1080P/60FPS
  • Computer vision: warp (undistortion), resize, crop via ImageManip node, edge detection, feature tracking. You can also run custom CV functions
  • Stereo depth perception with filtering, post-processing, RGB-depth alignment, and high configurability
  • Object tracking: 2D and 3D tracking with ObjectTracker node
  • Base line: 75 mm
  • Ideal depth range: 40cm – 6m. See technical specifications.
  • Power consumption: Up to 5W. See technical specifications

Technical Specifications

Camera Specifications

This camera is offered in two variants: First has 12MP IMX378 sensor. Second version is using special 1MP 120FP global shutter sensor OV9782.

Do you need better low light performance or more precise depth perception? In this case you can upgrade to OAK-D-Pro W with IR dot projector for active stereo and IR illumination for low light conditions.

Stereo depth perception

This OAK camera has a baseline of 7.5cm – the distance between the left and the right stereo camera. Minimal and maximal depth perception (MinZ and Max) depends on camera FOV, resolution, and baseline – more information here.

  • Ideal range: 40cm – 6m
  • MinZ: ~20cm (400P OR 800P, extended), ~37cm (800P)
  • MaxZ: ~10 meters with a variance of 10%

Note: Extended means that StereoDepth node has Extended disparity mode enabled. Depth accuracy (See 800P, 75mm baseline distance OAKs for details):

  • below 3.5m: below 2% absolute depth error
  • 3.5m – 6.5m: below 4% absolute depth error
  • 6.5m – 9m: below 6% absolute depth error

Features

Integrated IMU

This OAK camera has an integrated BNO085, a 9-axis IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit). See IMU node for the API details on how to use it.

Status LED

The camera is equipped with a single state status LED that indicates when the pipeline is running. Depending on the specific camera model and production batch, the LED may be either green or yellow.

Power and connectivity

Connectivity

Camera offers USB-C (USB 3.2 Gen1, 5 Gbps) for power and connectivity.

Power consumption

Most of the power is consumed by the RVC2, so the power consumption mostly depends on the workload of the VPU:

  • Base consumption + camera streaming: 2.5W – 3W
  • AI subsystem consumption: Up to 1W
  • Stereo depth pipeline subsystem: Up to 0.5W
  • Video Encoder subsystem: Up to 0.5W

So the total power consumption can be up to ~5W if you are using all the features at 100% at the same time. To reduce the power consumption, you can reduce FPS of the whole pipeline – that way, subsystems wont be utilized at 100% and will consume less power.

Operating characteristics

Water resistance

This camera comes with an IP66-rated enclosure. Please note that using an included screw-locking USB cable is required to maintain water resistance. More details can be found here.

Temperature

The ambient operating temperature of RVC2 based devices is between -20C and 50C when fully utilizing the VPU. To find out more, see our operating temperature range documentation.

Vibration resistance

Our cameras are tested for vibration tolerance according to the EN 60068-2-6:2008 standard. More information about the testing you can find here.
